For the first time, Krones has supported a competition for zebras. Of course, this was not launched in the animal world, but in the regional start-up scene.
The term “zebras” has evolved as a counter-model to “unicorns”: The latter refers to start-ups that are strongly geared towards growth and have a particularly high financial rating. In contrast, “zebras” are characterized by a balanced interplay of sustainability and profitability.
While unicorns were previously the favourite animals of the start-up world, zebras are becoming increasingly important. The Regensburg “Zebra Award”, which was launched this year, is an important step for the region in promoting innovative ideas in the field of sustainability and firmly linking the topic with the region.
This is precisely why Krones provided 5,000 euros for the prize money pot: So that the winning start-ups can set about further expanding their positive influence with fresh capital. On Wednesday, June 4, the award ceremony took place in Regensburg’s Museum of Bavarian History: First prize, worth 10,000 euros, went to “Superheldenkids” (“Superhero Kids” in English): a project that promotes personal development and mental health in children.
